API Credentials for OpenWeather

Guide to obtaining tokens, keys, and connections.

Follow these steps to get your API Key from your OpenWeatherMap account. The Botize form also asks for a name to identify this connection inside Botize — that one is just a label you choose, not something you fetch from OpenWeatherMap.

Get your API Key

  1. 1

Go to https://openweathermap.org and click "Sign in" in the top-right corner. If you don't have an account yet, click "Create an Account" and complete the short form (name, email, password).

  2. 2

Verify your email address by clicking the link OpenWeatherMap sends you.

  3. 3

Once signed in, open the API keys page directly at https://home.openweathermap.org/api_keys (or click your username in the top-right corner and choose "My API keys").

  4. 4

OpenWeatherMap automatically creates a default key when you register — you will see it listed here. If you prefer a dedicated key, type a name in the "Create key" box (for example, "Botize") and click "Generate".

  5. 5

Click the key value to copy it. It is a long string of letters and numbers.

  6. 6

New keys may take a few minutes to activate before they start returning data. If your first request fails, wait a few minutes and try again.

  7. 7

Go to Botize and paste the key into the API key field in the connection form.

Choose a name for this connection

  1. 1

In the field "A name to identify this application in Botize", type any short name that helps you recognize this connection later (for example, "My weather account"). It is only used inside Botize and does not need to match anything in OpenWeatherMap.
