API Credentials for SerpBase

Guide to obtaining tokens, keys, and connections.

SerpBase identifies you with an API Key. You create it from their dashboard, with your SerpBase account, in a couple of minutes. The dashboard is in English, and the button names quoted below are exactly what you will see on screen.

Create the API Key

A brand new account has no key yet: there is nothing to look for in the dashboard, you have to create it.

    Go to https://serpbase.dev/dashboard, or click the 'Dashboard' button at the top right of their site.

    In the left-hand menu click 'API Keys' (the second option, right below 'Overview').

    On a new account you will see 'Active Keys (0)' and the message 'No active keys'. That is expected: the key does not exist yet.

    Click the 'New Key' button at the top right.

    In the 'Create New API Key' dialog type a name in the 'Key Name' field — for example Botize, so you remember what it was for — and click 'Create Key'.

    You will see 'Key Created Successfully' and, below it, your full key: it starts with 'sk-' followed by a long string of letters and numbers. Copy it with the copy icon next to it.

    Important: the key is shown only once. SerpBase says so: 'Copy your key now. It won't be shown again.'. Copy and save it BEFORE clicking 'I've saved my key' — after that you cannot see it again. If you lose it, nothing breaks, but you will have to create a new one and revoke the old one.

Connect the account in Botize

    Back in Botize, paste the key into the 'API Key' field of the SerpBase connection form. It is the only value you are asked for.

    Do not copy the key from the 'Active Keys' list in the dashboard: it is masked there, looking like 'sk-b9e2****************358a'. Pasting the asterisks will make the connection fail.

    When you connect, Botize runs a real search to check that the key works, and that check spends 1 credit. Having 99 left out of the initial 100 afterwards is normal, not an error.

    If everything went well, the account will appear in your profile list as 'SerpBase' followed by 5 characters. You do not choose that code: it is there to tell several SerpBase accounts apart.

Credits and limits

    The 100 free credits show in the dashboard as 'Permanent: 100'. Permanent credits do not expire.

    Each search spends 1 credit per page of results. Checking the position of a domain can spend up to 3 credits if you ask to look as far as the top 30.

    To top up, use the 'Credits' option in the left-hand menu, or the 'Top up' link in the credits box.

    A new account comes with a limit of 1 request per second ('Rate Limit: 1 req/s' in the dashboard).

If something goes wrong

    'Your SerpBase API key is invalid or has been revoked' — the key was mistyped, is incomplete (the asterisks), or you revoked it. Create a new one following the 'Create the API Key' section and connect again.

    'The API key is mandatory' — the field was submitted empty. Paste the key and save again.

    'Your SerpBase account has run out of credits' — you are out of credits. Top up from 'Credits' and try again. This message can already appear while connecting, because the check spends 1 credit.

    'Could not reach SerpBase to validate the key' — SerpBase did not answer at that moment. Wait a few minutes and try again.
