Limits when automating set by Twitter
Rate limit windows and maximum number of requests
Twitter sets limits on the use of its API, which determines the number of automations you can perform, so it is advisable to know them to avoid any possible interruption in the tasks.
Why does the Twitter API have limits?
The limits serve to ease the burden on Twitter's infrastructure. Just like Twitter sets limits on the number of posts or accounts you can follow in a certain time frame, operations through its API are also subject to limits.
Maximum number of automations that can be carried out in periods of 3 Hours
The following automations are limited in periods of 3 Hours, that is, every 3 Hours you can make a maximum of 300 updates, 300 retweets or a combination of both, for example 150 updates and 150 retweets.
| Operation | Rate limit window | Rate limit per user | Rate limit per app |
|---|---|---|---|
| Updates | 3 Hours | 300 | 300 |
| Retweets | 3 Hours | 300 | 300 |
Maximum number of automations that can be performed in periods of 24 Hours
The following automations are limited in periods of 24 Hours, that is, every 24 Hours you can automate up to 1000 favorites, follow up to 400 user accounts and send up to 1000 direct messages.
| Operation | Rate limit window | Rate limit per user | Rate limit per app |
|---|---|---|---|
| Favorite | 24 Hours | 1000 | 1000 |
| Follow account | 24 Hours | 400 | 1000 |
| Direct message | 24 Hours | 1000 | 15000 |
Maximum number of automations that can be performed in periods of 15 Minutes
The following automations are limited to periods of 15 Minutes, that is, every 15 Minutes you can automate up to 180 tweet searches, 75 mentions searches or up to 900 user searches.
| Operation | Rate limit window | Rate limit per user | Rate limit per app |
|---|---|---|---|
| Favorite list | 15 Minutes | 75 | 75 |
| Follower list | 15 Minutes | 15 | 15 |
| Tweet search | 15 Minutes | 180 | 450 |
| Mention search | 15 Minutes | 75 | 0 |
| User search | 15 Minutes | 900 | 0 |
