Your AI assistant can't see new tools
Symptom
Any of these:
- You've approved a new tool and your assistant still doesn't see it.
- You ask for something you know it can do and it answers that it doesn't have that tool.
- It says the connection to Botize is failing or that it can't access your account, even though Botize is working normally.
- It mentions tools whose name starts with
botize_.
Why it happens
Your assistant asks Botize for your MCP's tool list and works from it. That list changes when you approve a tool or connect again. Problems come from four places:
- Your assistant keeps a saved copy of the list and doesn't ask for it again. It uses names that no longer exist and doesn't see the new ones. This is most common in ChatGPT.
- You connected to a different MCP, for example by clicking Create a new MCP when connecting again. That MCP is empty. Why choosing yours matters
- The tool isn't approved yet: the request is still pending or you rejected it.
- Your assistant uses an old connection. Names starting with
botize_belong to the previous way of connecting, with a fixed list.
How to fix it
Go in order: each step takes longer than the one before.
1. Refresh the list in your assistant
ChatGPT
ChatGPT freezes the list when you connect and only refreshes it when you ask:
Plugins → Botize's … menu → open its settings → at the end of the panel, click Refresh. How, step by step
Do it every time you approve a new tool. Removing the plugin and creating it again doesn't always clear the old copy: use the button.
Claude
Claude asks for the list at the start of each conversation, but doesn't notice what you approve in the middle of one. Start a new conversation: the tool will be there.
Claude Code
Same as Claude: start a new session.
Other assistants
Look for a refresh button in the connection's settings. If there isn't one, restart the app.
2. Check which MCP it's connected to
Open MCP connections and look at each MCP's Last used and number of tools. If the one your assistant uses has fewer tools than you expected, you connected to another MCP or a new one.
To go back to yours, disconnect Botize in your assistant, connect it again and, at Which MCP do you want to connect?, pick the one that has your tools. Then repeat step 1.
3. Check that the tool is approved
In MCP connections, see whether the request is still under Requests from the agent. If you rejected it or can't find it, ask your assistant to request it again and approve it.
4. If you see botize_ names
Your assistant is using the old connection. Connect Botize again following your assistant's guide and then refresh the list (step 1).
How to tell it worked
Ask your assistant:
List the exact names of the Botize tools you have available.
You should see tools like list_tasks or search_methods, plus the ones you've approved. If any start with botize_, it still has the old list.
If it still doesn't work
Write to us saying which assistant you use, what you asked and what it answered. Botize delivers the tool list at the moment it's requested, so if your assistant asks for it and it still fails, it's something we can look into.
